WHO WE ARE
The Rescue Fund is an ongoing campaign to raise the funds necessary to rescue North Korean refugees who are hiding in China.
We are a volunteer-run group within the Seoul-based NGO, Citizens' Alliance for North Korean Human Rights (NKHR).
Since its establishment in 1996 by human rights activists, intellectuals and North Korean defectors, NKHR has advocated for the human rights of the North Korean people and assisted North Korean refugees. It believes in a holistic approach to assisting refugees--first helping them reach South Korea safely, then providing programs to help them adjust to their new lives. NKHR is one of the oldest non-governmental, non-profit organizations in South Korea devoted to improving the lives of North Koreans.
Every year, NKHR receives a large number of requests from North Koreans who have escaped to China and who need help reaching South Korea. In China, refugees are under constant threat of being sent back to North Korea by the Chinese government, or of being sold as brides or cheap labor. The Rescue Fund was created in 2013 to help NKHR rescue as many of those refugees as possible.
Unfortunately, NKHR receives more requests from refugees than it can afford to help. Let's change that! Donations may be made on this website, or at one of our events in Seoul. Feel free to contact us for more information.

OUR GOAL: RESCUE & EDUCATE
In 2012 NKHR spent over $50,000 helping 35 North Korean people come to South Korea. It takes about $2,500 to help one person leave China on what's being called the “underground railroad”. Our goal with this campaign is to raise $15,000 (15 million won) this year, which will help 6 people leave China, and to spread awareness of the plight North Koreans face in North Korea, as well as in China when they attempt to escape.
LIFE IN NORTH KOREA"North Korean through the Eyes of Witnesses," a documentary produced by NKHR, shows why the refugees risk their lives to escape North Korea.
